Your shape is a ratio, not a verdict.
Body shape is a ratio, not a number. It describes how your bust, waist, and hips relate to each other. Five reads cover most adult-female bodies: (Strawberry), (Pear), (Banana), (Apple), and (Peach).Male body shape uses the same logic with the shoulder line standing in for the bust, typically read as (Strawberry), (Banana), , (Apple), or (Pear).
What body shape actually means
The five shapes get their names from the your body draws, where it's widest, where it narrows, and how symmetrical the top and bottom halves read. Two people at the same weight can have completely different , and two people at very different weights can share the same shape. The system only cares about proportion and ratios.
Tap a fruit to see the math behind it.
* B = bust · H = hips · W = waist · avg = (B + H) ÷ 2
To check the formulas against your own line, take three measurements: , , and . Keep the tape parallel to the floor, snug but not tight, and breathe normally. You'll need a soft fabric tape like this one (yarn or ribbon work in a pinch). Wear a fitted top (no heavily padded bras) and fitted bottoms, or measure over bare skin.
Don't forget your shoulders
Shoulder width biases the read in its own direction. Narrow shoulders sit inside the hip line and push the silhouette toward a read; shoulders line up roughly with the hips and let the bust-to-hip ratio do the talking; broad shoulders sit wider than the hips and push the silhouette toward an read. This is most obvious when your bust-and-hip math says but the silhouette feels off — a rectangle with broad shoulders styles closer to an inverted triangle, and a rectangle with narrow shoulders styles closer to a pear.
Most common body shapes
For context on what's typical: is the most common adult-female read, while the romanticized is actually the rarest. Most people land somewhere in between or sit on the edge between two shapes.
On the male side, most adult skeletons have clavicles wider than the pelvic crests, so a mild V from shoulder to waist is the default. and are the two most common reads. The dramatic is the genuinely rare one and usually requires shoulder and back muscle built beyond what daily life produces. shows up often with midlife weight distribution; is the rarest natural read.
